Sacroiliac joint injections can be done to help diagnose and treat pain coming from the sacroiliac joints.  The injections are done with the help of a special x-ray machine called C-Arm and it takes a few minutes to do.

The result is fairly immediate because of the local anesthetic effect.  Pain relief can vary from days to weeks or months.  Ligament proliferative therapy such as prolotherapy can be performed if the pain recurs or in appropriate cases sacroiliac fusions can also be done, which is also very successful.

Sacroilliac fusions are especially a very useful minimally invasive procedure that can considerably alleviate the lower back pain located over the sacroiliac joints in people who have not done well with prior spine surgery. The appropriate patients should generally have maximum pain overlying the sacroiliac joint and should respond very effectively with good pain relief from a diagnostic sacroiliac joint injection.
